Overview

Tamil Nadu is one of India’s growth engine states, and not without reason. It's the third largest state economy in India with about $30 billion in GDP. The state is home to multinational auomotive giants like Ford and Hyundai, mobile handset maker Nokia, glassmaker Saint Gobain and several such companies, which simply indicates that the state is industry friendly. These MNCs have spawn several hundreds of ancillary companies. Besides, Chennai is traditionally known for banking and finance, homegrown consumer brands and retail industries, while the state also boasts of robust industrial centres like Coimbatore (manufacturing) and Tirupur (textiles).

While some of the nationally known homegrown corporate houses like TVS Group, Murugappa and Amalgamations stand tall in the state, it also has new economy companies like Nasdaq-listed Cognizant Technologies, Carlyle-funded Allsec Technologies, Apax Partners-funded Apollo Hospitals and Shriram Group. Talking of deal flow in Tamil Nadu, the state is rubbing shoulders with other top drawers of private equity. There have been over 150 VC/PE deals across various sectors in the state.

The state stands number three in terms of FDI inflow into the country. It has all the elements in place for spurring its growth engine: Be it qualified manpower, low cost of operations, proactive government policies, a well-developed ecosystem for automotive, textile and financial services companies and, most significantly, flattering human development indicators such as literacy and access to education and healthcare.

So Tamil Nadu is our next stop. VCCircle presents the Chennai edition of its immensely successful Investment Forum series to bring entrepreneurs and the investing community on a common platform. The day-long conference will feature over two dozen distinguished speakers from India Inc who will share investment formulas, future deal outlook and novel financing options.
