So, despite its notorious cyclical nature, agriculture and food related industries is a sector that has been doing well when many other sectors have been faltering in these tough times. The investors across the world are looking at the industry with a renewed interest.
In India, over the last four years, more than 40 companies in the agri and food space received close to $500 million in private equity. In the last one year alone, more than a dozen companies secured $200 million in funding. Probably it's only the beginning of the good days for deals in agri space.
India has come a long way from the green revolution of the 1960s and 1970s which was characterized by expansion of farming areas, double cropping of existing farmlands and using seeds of improved genetics. Now the country is adopting newer technologies at the seeds and processing stage, corporatising agricultural production, and embarking on a retail revolution.
In this context, ICICI Bank and VCCircle are jointly presenting 'VCCircle ICICI Bank Investment Summit' on 'Agri, Food & Emerging Sectors' in Mumbai on June 12, 2009. It's the first of its kind forum in India which will bring together 200 plus delegates including leading private equity fund managers, venture capitalists, companies, entrepreneurs, bankers, advisors and management consultants who are looking to do business in agri and food space.
