Introduction

Cybersecurity has always been a never-ending race, but the rate of change is accelerating. Companies are continuing to invest in technology to run their businesses. Now, they are layering more systems into their IT networks to support remote work, enhance the customer experience, and generate value, all of which creates potential new vulnerabilities.

At the same time, adversaries—no longer limited to individual actors—include highly sophisticated organizations that leverage integrated tools and capabilities with artificial intelligence and machine learning. The scope of the threat is growing, and no organization is immune. Small and midsize enterprises, municipalities, and state and federal governments face such risks along with large companies. Even today’s most sophisticated cyber controls, no matter how effective, will soon be obsolete.

To meet the far-reaching security requirements of digital ecosystems, companies should aim for a 360-degree approach. These initiatives are all aimed at the same goal: nurturing a culture of cybersecurity that tasks every member of an organization with embracing attitudes and beliefs that drive secure behaviours.

TechCircle is organizing - Future of Trust – Architecting a Cybersecurity Culture - a summit that will bring together industry experts and torchbearers to deliberate on the future of cybersecurity, its implementation, challenges and solutions, thus carving a roadmap for the future.

Welcome Address & Opening Keynote: Architecting a Cybersecurity Culture

Investment in cybersecurity technologies and training and awareness programs has soared the last few years as the threat landscape grows. Yet those efforts don’t go far enough in fully mitigating cybersecurity risks. This is because the weak link is typically people and behaviour — a problem that is only resolved through a combination of technology investment and culture change. One of the most critical pillars in that is of accountability. Unfortunately, enterprises still haven’t changed the accountability culture. According to the Gartner Board of Directors Survey 2022, in over 85% of companies, CISOs & CIOs are still responsible for cyber security.

Fireside Chat: SOC's in the Spotlight

With many industries, the first challenge of operational-technology (OT) security is identifying who “owns” it. Once resolved, the logical next questions follow: Who funds it, who operates it, and what are the intersection points between IT and OT security? A duplication of security controls, policies, frameworks, and vendors across both IT and OT only accentuates the complexity. Further with the influx of IT functions hosting on-premises, private- and public-cloud environments, has become one of the major roadblocks of traditional SoCs. The complexities of dealing with technology fragmentation is a key concern of CISO’s today.

Keynote: Mitigating the Cybersecurity Talent Gap

The talent shortage is a massive problem, and it’s affecting both clients and providers. The use of technology—primarily AI and its machine-learning offspring—has helped slightly, especially in a security-operations center dealing with an active cyberattack. But the technology is primarily supplementing security analysts, allowing human capacity to be more efficient and to focus more on tasks where their experience and creativity are essential. Hence mitigating this gap needs innovation and persistence.

Panel Discussion: Hybrid Workforce Anchored on Zero Trust

In response to the coronavirus outbreak and to lockdown measures, companies around the globe have moved to remote work and shifted their operations online. These moves can also create new openings for cyberattacks. Leaders are balancing business continuity and the speed at which they must adapt to digital solutions against the need to protect their organization, people, and customers. The need of the hour is a secure remote access to data, applications, and services of an organisation based on clearly defined access control policies. Zero Trust Architecture is the answer to this call.

Panel Discussion: The Power of Human Led Cyber Defence

A new future is on the horizon, entirely different from the expectation. BYOD is shifting to BYOE (Bring Your Own Environment) to address necessary cultural shifts, the evolving purpose of a physical office, and the security ramifications of remote work. The moment of truth: technology is continuously redefining — how we live, interact, and work, to forge a better future. While advances in automation and technology have played an important part in strengthening organizations’ cyber defences, truly effective security programs still require the addition of human experts. Behind every cyberthreat is a cybercriminal, and today’s advanced attacks often combine the latest technology with hands-on live hacking. Protecting against these human-led attacks requires human expertise.
