Steve Hardgrave is the co-founder and CEO of Varthana, a company dedicated to improving education for low and middle income families by providing financing and support to Affordable Private Schools in India.

Prior to launching Varthana, Steve worked as an investor at Omidyar Network and Gray Ghost Ventures, helping to develop and execute sector-based investment strategies around access to capital and affordable private schools.

Steve’s career began with a seven-year stint in Mexico, working first with a local community development organization, and later launching a successful microfinance institution. His mix of entrepreneurship, international development and investment experience has given him unique ability to identify dynamic, underserved opportunities and successfully execute on them.

Subbu Subramanian, Leading Private Equity Investor, Private Equity Iindustry.

Subbu,Subramaniam - is the founding Partner of Barings Private Equity Partners (India) Ltd.and Chairman of Venture Capital Association of India (VCAI) an Industry body for PE and VC. Previously, he was CEO of First India Asset Management (a JV between First Leasing Company and Investec of UK), where he raised a dedicated Fund to Invest in South India. Earlier to that he was VP at Bank of America ,India and served across Kolkatta, Chennai and Mumbai branches in the treasury and INvestemnet Advsiosry function. He has also worked in Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), managing a non-Islamic Currency Fund.

Mr. Subramaniam is a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and Corporate Secretary. He has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. BUT in his opinion the qualifiaction that helped him grow as a Private Equity Investor is his working knowledge of six Indian languages besides English.

He has served on various boards including MphasiS (an EDS company), Cybernet Slash Support (CSS), Jyothy Laboratories, Secova eServices Limited, Auro Mira Energy Company Private Limited, and Integra Software Services Private Limited. At MphasiS BFL he has initiated and instituted comprehensive corporate governance standards as chairman of Audit Committee. He is currently evaluating options in Private Equity Iindustry.


Subeer Monga, Partner, Mayfield India

Subeer has been an active venture investor in India for over 11 years. He has been with Mayfield India since 2010 and has worked on investments across the fintech, SaaS, agriculture & food, consumer, education, logistics, and technology verticals.
Prior to joining Mayfield India, Subeer was with HSBC InvestDirect’s Non-banking Finance Company where he worked on various debt transactions. Before HSBC InvestDirect, Subeer was with IL&FS Investmart as part of the equity capital markets investment banking team.
Subeer has received a Bachelor’s degree with a Major in Finance and Minor in Economics from the University of Windsor, Canada.

Subhasis joined UTI Ventures in 2006. He brings over 14 years of diverse professional experience in the areas of financial services and management consulting. Prior to joining UTI Ventures, Subhasis worked with IBM Business Consulting Services (formerly, PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting) where he was involved in advising a large number of Indian Corporates in the areas of business strategy and performance management. Earlier, Subhasis managed a Luxemburg based investment fund for a Middle East national insurance company. Earlier on in his career, he also had a stint as a credit analyst at CRISIL, the Indian associate of the global credit rating agency Standard & Poor. Subhasis is a Chemical Engineer from IIT, Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM, Bangalore.
