Steve Hardgrave, Co-founder and CEO, Varthana

Steve Hardgrave is the co-founder and CEO of Varthana, a company dedicated to improving education for low and middle income families by providing financing and support to Affordable Private Schools in India.

Prior to launching Varthana, Steve worked as an investor at Omidyar Network and Gray Ghost Ventures, helping to develop and execute sector-based investment strategies around access to capital and affordable private schools.

Steve’s career began with a seven-year stint in Mexico, working first with a local community development organization, and later launching a successful microfinance institution. His mix of entrepreneurship, international development and investment experience has given him unique ability to identify dynamic, underserved opportunities and successfully execute on them.

Steve he holds a MBA from the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley and a BA in economics from University of California, Los Angeles.

Subbu Subramanian, Leading Private Equity Investor, Private Equity Iindustry.

Subbu,Subramaniam - is the founding Partner of Barings Private Equity Partners (India) Ltd.and Chairman of Venture Capital Association of India (VCAI) an Industry body for PE and VC. Previously, he was CEO of First India Asset Management (a JV between First Leasing Company and Investec of UK), where he raised a dedicated Fund to Invest in South India. Earlier to that he was VP at Bank of America ,India and served across Kolkatta, Chennai and Mumbai branches in the treasury and INvestemnet Advsiosry function. He has also worked in Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), managing a non-Islamic Currency Fund.

Mr. Subramaniam is a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and Corporate Secretary. He has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. BUT in his opinion the qualifiaction that helped him grow as a Private Equity Investor is his working knowledge of six Indian languages besides English.

He has served on various boards including MphasiS (an EDS company), Cybernet Slash Support (CSS), Jyothy Laboratories, Secova eServices Limited, Auro Mira Energy Company Private Limited, and Integra Software Services Private Limited. At MphasiS BFL he has initiated and instituted comprehensive corporate governance standards as chairman of Audit Committee. He is currently evaluating options in Private Equity Iindustry.


Subeer Monga, Partner, Mayfield India

Subeer has been an active venture investor in India for over 11 years. He has been with Mayfield India since 2010 and has worked on investments across the fintech, SaaS, agriculture & food, consumer, education, logistics, and technology verticals.
Prior to joining Mayfield India, Subeer was with HSBC InvestDirect’s Non-banking Finance Company where he worked on various debt transactions. Before HSBC InvestDirect, Subeer was with IL&FS Investmart as part of the equity capital markets investment banking team.
Subeer has received a Bachelor’s degree with a Major in Finance and Minor in Economics from the University of Windsor, Canada.
 


Subham Kumar, Director, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP

Subham is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India having over 10 years of post-qualification experience in corporate tax, international tax and India regulatory matters.

Subham has worked extensively in the field of domestic and international tax advise, litigation support including advance ruling for cross border transaction, taxation due diligence support, M&A related advisory & implemented support.

Subham has assisted various multinational and Indian clients across sectors such as including Financial Services, manufacturing, automobile, software & ITES, pharmaceuticals, real estate, media and engineering on matters relating to business restructuring, domestic and international taxation advisory.

Sridhar is a director in tax practice in Grant Thornton LLP where he is works on the transaction tax assignment in South India. Some of his key experiences include:

Subhasis Majumder, Director, UTI Ventures

Subhasis joined UTI Ventures in 2006. He brings over 14 years of diverse professional experience in the areas of financial services and management consulting. Prior to joining UTI Ventures, Subhasis worked with IBM Business Consulting Services (formerly, PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting) where he was involved in advising a large number of Indian Corporates in the areas of business strategy and performance management. Earlier, Subhasis managed a Luxemburg based investment fund for a Middle East national insurance company. Earlier on in his career, he also had a stint as a credit analyst at CRISIL, the Indian associate of the global credit rating agency Standard & Poor. Subhasis is a Chemical Engineer from IIT, Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM, Bangalore.

Began career as Account Officer in Bharat Electronics and thereafter joined Shriram Group 18 years ago Worked in various departments like Accounts, Finance & Audit depts. Has also worked in Pharmaceutical and Stock Broking outfits of Shriram Group as a trouble shooter from the Group. Also has three years experience in high level Consultancy work. Currently is the Executive Director of Shriram City Union Finance Ltd., which is in the business of retail finance with pan India presence. The Company is the largest player in India in this segment with current market capitasation of over 1600 crores of which more than 60% is held by Foreign entities.


Subhrangshu Neogi, Director - Marketing & Brand, Religare Enterprises Limited

As the head of the group’s marketing efforts, Subhrangshu oversees and offers strategic guidance for marketing programs across all businesses straddling a diverse bouquet of products, channels and segments.  He is also the chief custodian for the Religare Brand having navigated it since inception and responsible for the overall architecture, positioning and consistency across all platforms. He is a key enabler for various alliances to effectively deliver cross sell, up sell opportunities leveraging synergies across the group portfolio. He has also been instrumental in driving various strategic programs in the realm of investor education and has consistently evangelized a “digital first” culture within the group.  With almost 2 decades of experience in integrated marketing, sales and business development roles spanning categories such as FMCG, Retail, Telecom, Media and now Financial Services, he loves to take on new challenges. He has been with Religare for almost 9 years and prior to that has served across India and key markets in Asia.


Subramaniam Krishnan, Partner, Ernst & Young

Subramaniam Krishnan is a Partner in EY’s Private Equity & Financial Services - Tax and Regulatory Services practice, based in Mumbai. He has over 20 years of experience in advising and assisting financial services industry participants and investment funds establish an Indian investment/ operational presence. He has advised on a range of tax and regulatory issues. Subramaniam is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Subramaniam actively engages with the Government and regulatory authorities for tax and regulatory change initiatives on behalf of industry associations. Subramaniam is a member of the Alternative Investment Policy Advisory Committee constituted by the Securities and Exchange Board of India.


Subramanian M S, Director - Analytics, Dell

Mani is a Director in the Dell Global Analytics team and leads the Operations-Supply Chain, Services and Support Analytics teams in Dell. He drives key analytics engagements for the end-to-end supply chain at Dell. In addition his teams also work on analytics engagements focused on the Services offerings of Dell and the Customer Services dimension of Dell’s operations.

He has over 15 years of experience in Consulting and Analytics. Prior to joining Dell, Mani worked at McKinsey, Infosys, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. In these roles he led SCM engagements for clients across the US, Europe and the Middle East. Mani holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from University of Madras, MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and Master of Engineering degree from MIT.

Mani’s interests outside of work include quizzing and promoting leadership and communication through the Toastmasters movement.
