Introduction

We are proud to announce the highly awaited Mint | TechCircle Business Transformation: Virtual Symposium.

Businesses have spent much of the past nine months scrambling to adapt to extraordinary circumstances. While, 2021 will be the year of regeneration, the next normal is going to be different. Going back to the conditions that prevailed in 2019 seems like a far fetch possibility. Early and seamless adaption to digital ecosystems has been the key to survival in the recent times. These ecosystems consist of interconnected sets of services through which users fulfil a variety of cross-sectoral needs in one integrated experience. Today’s dominant ecosystems comprise of hyper scale platforms to compete with, disintermediate, and often substitute for the offerings of traditional competitors by controlling customer interfaces and control points such as search, advertising, and messaging. Incumbents are shaking up the value chains to attract customers of the new ecosystem —and tap potentially huge pools of value. Companies are set to lead by redefining "who they are", "how they operate" and "how they grow".

Treading the transition - A commitment to change
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the evidence is mounting that the next normal will bring key shifts. As organizations adjust, they’re looking at the corporate center to take the lead in driving the change. Half measures and incrementalism won’t work when we emerge from the crisis. What got us here….won’t get us there.

Take action to set the company’s purpose in motion – Adopt Cloud First Strategy
Future-ready companies recognize that purpose helps attract people to join an organization, remain there, and thrive. Investors understand why this is valuable, and factor purpose into their decision making. When centered at the heart of work, purpose helps people navigate uncertainty, inspires commitment, and even reveals untapped market potential.

In today’s date and time scalability, agility and connectedness is repurposing organizations. Organizations are now aiming to achieve scalability horizontally as well as vertically. They are considering scalability for more processes and functions. Further, they plan to scale up their reach and market penetration and are looking at agility to be able to scale down as well, if required. Enterprises have also fundamentally realized the essence of being connected. Hence, enterprises are looking to adopt to cloud first strategy. The complete architecture is now required to be cloud- driven. It’s a call to action, as early adopters to cloud are likely to capture a disproportionate share of the total business opportunities that cloud makes possible.

Digital Businesses - Optimising for velocity
While the COVID-19 crisis has made speed a priority for many organizations, it has also reinforced how difficult speed is to harness. Once organizations galvanize identity, being digital helps them to optimize for speed. However, speed needs to be associated with one single goal at all times; delivering user/customer/business value. They need to enable a network of empowered, dynamic teams to find pockets of value, including at the company’s “edges” where employees are closest to customers.

    Portfolio restructuring accelerated
The COVID-19 crisis shook historic norms, with some industries taking off and others suffering badly. As the economy settles into its next normal, such sectoral differences are expected to narrow, with industries returning to somewhere around their previous relative positions. To come out stronger organisations need resilience to not only absorb shocks but to use them to build competitive advantage. In the era of “fast products” and digital disruption, organisations are putting in place new innovations based on speed, agility, and scale and reallocating resources to more promising businesses leading to an acceleration of growth.

    Regenerating Operations
Organizations are always faced with limited opportunity to differentiate their product offerings and land up typically competing by offering a combination of low prices and a good customer experience to drive acquisition and retention. A key challenge for organizations is ensuring that they can deliver each of those elements without compromising the other. All this is driving companies to redouble their efforts to integrate new technologies into their operations. Companies need to see digital tools as a way to achieve significant productivity improvements, while also offering a better customer experience. Consumers are already demonstrating a preference for companies that deliver great service while reducing risks all along the customer journey.

    Supply chains rebalance and shift
The pandemic has revealed vulnerabilities in the long, complicated supply chains of many companies which led to the great rebalancing. While studying how their supply chains worked businesses realised three things: First that disruptions are predictable features of doing business that needs to be managed like any other. Second, cost differences among developed and many developing countries are narrowing with the adoption of Industry 4.0 principles. And third, companies have no clear visibility of what is going on in the sub-tiers of their supply chains which is critical. Companies are adopting AI and data analytics, to learn more about, audit and connect with their entire value chains.

    Security Enabling Business Transformation
There is an increasing reliance on internet platforms, SaaS and software across every dimension of our digital lives which also exposes us to digital vulnerabilities. In this complex information landscape, one of biggest underlying challenges of leaders is how to establish a trusted environment in ever expanding organisation and workforce perimeter commonly now known as “work and consume from anywhere”. Modern organizations need to recalibrate their cyber security approach around three main elements: Securing their corporate networks and datacenters, securing cloud environments and lastly, securing employees – wherever they are.

Riding the tide of behavioural changes
As we are resetting our environments and beginning to unlock across the globe, we have witnessed a permanent shift in behavior of both the workforce and consumers. Starting from education to entertainment to shopping experiences, the choices of mode of consumption has shifted. Customer behaviors and preferred interactions have changed significantly, and while they will continue to shift, the uptick in the use of digital services is here to stay. Simultaneously, organizations have had to deal with change in workforce behaviors. A new kind of capability building that works in today’s virtual environments is the need of the hour. Organizations need to focus not only on learning but also inculcating new skills across broad segments of the workforce.
